Here's our sad entertainment space before I transformed it. Note the corner covered in bushes at the back left: that's where we put the kitchen.
After removing all the bushes, we needed to pour a couple concrete slabs. The foreground extends the patio while above the retaining wall holds the kitchen itself. The big block in the background is a wall around the pool equipment.
The whole thing is made up of two parts: wood is used for the wall behind and beneath the countertop while metal is used to support the concrete countertop.
Here is the metal frame for the countertop, which is necessary to prevent the concrete from cracking. This also shows the electrical and gas supply lines, which I tapped into from the nearby pool equipment.
I used just about every tool I own on this project.
Here the base is complete and the countertop is ready to be poured. Break-away Z-form is used on all the outside edges to create a smooth edge.
